The University of Eswatini through the Department of Computer Science hosted its IndabaX 2023 on the 27th to 28th of July, 2023 with support from Deep Learning Indaba consortium, Eswatini Revenue Service, Royal Science and Technology Park, Centre for Financial Inclusion (CFI), Central Bank of Eswatini(CBE), Financial Services Regulatory Authority(FSRA) and Eswatini Communications Commission(ESCCOM). Machine Learning HACKATHON Competition
This is a workshop consisting of structured seminar lectures and practical sessions by established researchers from multi-disciplinary fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Geosciences, Accounting, Finance and Management. The tutorial lectures will cover Introduction to Natural Language Processing, Introduction to Siswati Morphology, Machine Learning Techniques for Morphology and, Importance of indigenous languages in economic development & service delivery (business growth).
The practical sessions will be on Python programming.
Aim and Objectives
The aim of the workshop is to support local researchers in Eswatini to enhance and strengthen local and international links for future collaboration, build research capacity and improve the students and young researchers’ career opportunities. The workshop thrives to achieve the following objectives:
1. Improvement of research capacity of students and researchers through machine learning techniques in order to address real-life problems.
2. Contribute local content to the existing machine learning applications
3. Empowerment of Women in Machine Learning in Eswatini

This challenge starts on 27 July at 08:00 AM. Competition closes on 15 September 2023 at midnight. The private leaderboard will be revealed on 16 September at 08:00 AM.
This competition is a timed event in which teams get together to collaborate intensively on creative projects. The aim is to design, build and present the most innovative solution to a problem, and then pitch a final concept, prototype or presentation to the stakeholders. The problem statement presented during the IndabaX event is described on the Zindi Website with #IndabaXEswatini! as the secret code.
